Easy DIY Garage Gym Pull-up/Muscle-Up Bar with Wall Ball Target

The original video is below. I decided to do a quick update. Same camera crew, different house, new improved set-up! Leave a comment and tell me what you think.

My next project is a 15 foot rope climb… any suggestions?

  1. Looks great! I commented on your last video. Regarding the 15ft rope climb. I may add a second section involving two 16 ft 4×4’s. Same design you have here, except i’d add a second 45 degree 2×4 support running from the lateral 2×4 up a few feet and fastened to the 4×4. I’d also use this section to hang muscle up rings from. Then there’d be the adjacent section you have for bar muscle ups. There’d be 3 vertical 4×4’s total, two 16 ft and one 8 ft for the bar. Let me know if you have any other ideas, If not, i’ll let you know how it goes! Thanks so much for sharing this! I’ve never been able to figure out a way to do bar muscle ups before now, since my garage has a ceiling height of 9 feet for my rig in there.

    1. I ran into the same problem with the garage height in my last house and the new house. Heck, the new house is about a foot lower than the old one. I am wanting to build a metal shop with a high ceiling, but until then, this is the best Idea I have come up with. I did build a stand alone pull-up rig (sort of like the 1/2 size kick-off I made for my kids, but both sides were supported by A-Frames and was portable. It became too bulky to move around the side of the house every time and it would rock a bit too much for me.

As for the rope climb, I think my grandfather in-law has parts to an old antenna (one of the large ones) laying around at his land , so next time I visit him, I may see if it is usable. If not, I heard you can ask the utility company to buy or for free acquire an old utility pole. I would assume you only need one of those and could hang a rope on one side and rings on another. I do have some pics of a 15 foot (I believe) three 4×4’s tied in with some 2×4’s and cross bars to make what you were saying. It was just a bit too wobbly for me as well. I’ll see if I can find them and post them up here.

Please send pics when you get yours all built!

The bar for the rings is at 12 ft. Could put a rope on it too I guess. Wasn’t comfortable with going any higher. Still working on the portability aspect because when you unbolt it and move it it wants to rack in every direction. Thinking of adding a lower and mid block of wood spanning the width to bolt and unbolt with some sort of quick bolt. The 12ft is def hard to maneuver and kind of dangerous to try to lower too! Need to work out the kinks with that.

  3. Hey man! Thanks again for showing me this, so happy! I deviated some with my hardware and made a second rig as well. See the video below for in depth look at what I ended up doing. Price was roughly $100 per rig.

    1. Looks like you did yours a bit more stable with the hardware. If I was to build mine from scratch with no leftover materials, I would probably have done the same with the hardware. Just an idea though, if you felt it was too unstable with the 4×4 at 16 feet, you could possibly tie in two 4×4 or even 3 of them to make it more stable. Again, great job!
